It is the Cummins X15, the alternative engine of 2026. We are referring to the assignment of the Alternative Engine Award specifically to the Cummins X15. The award ceremony took place at the Cummins booth at Agritechnica on Monday, November 10.

We hear from Marina Savelli

Cummins has a rich legacy of powering farm and agriculture equipment with our first diesel engine built for farm use more than 100 years ago. To be recognized with the Alternative Engine of the Year Award at Agritechnica is special,” said Marina Savelli, Cummins Vice President, Off-Highway Engine Business.

Agriculture is more than an industry; it’s a global lifeline to a growing global population. At Cummins, we’re proud to support the farmers who feed the world through our lineup of high efficiency power solutions that are reliable, durable, and future-ready.

Talking about X15 and the HELM platform

Intermittent agriculture ratings range from 400-600 hp (298-447 kW) with peak torque up to 3000 Nm. A new high-efficiency fuel injection system in the latest X15 delivers up to 10% more fuel efficiency than the current X15 with comparable ratings and duty cycles.

New adopters can also expect up to 1000-hour service intervals, doubling the recommended intervals of the current model, and providing more uptime no matter what application it’s powering. The alternative X15 Off-Highway is expected to be in production in 2027.

The updated X15 Off-Highway engine is the latest in the X-Series built on the Cummins HELM platform—short for Higher Efficiency, Lower Emissions, Multiple Fuels. Cummins’ Off Highway HELM engines include variants that can run on advanced diesel or hydrogen and share a common base design.

Cummins HELM engines also have similar installation points and other physical attributes that make integration into existing OEM equipment easier. Over the past century of developing agribusiness products, the company has broadened its global reach and powers a range of agricultural equipment—including combines, tractors, harvesters, sprayers, loaders, spreaders, and telehandlers—powered by its versatile engine lineup ranging from 3.8 to 15 liters of displacement.

And now, let’s make room for the F4.5 Structural Engine

The compact F4.5 Structural Engine is the latest addition to the Cummins line of tractor products. It delivers from 130-160 horsepower (95 kilowatts – 120 kilowatts).

We’ve built the F4.5 to have substantial low-end torque and transient performance benefits, alongside excellent fuel economy,” said Beau Lintereur, Cummins Executive Director, Off- Highway Business. “Because it’s a structural engine, the block, oil pan and gear housing are all integrated right into the chassis, giving the tractor increased strength and durability while reducing overall machine weight. This package gives tractor OEMs the flexibility they need to integrate the engine, while meeting the performance needs farmers demand.

X15 Alternative

Other features of the F4.5 Structural designed to benefit farmers through increased uptime include smart calibrations for responsive power and reliable performance, and oil drain intervals of up to 600-hours, to maximize productivity in the busiest seasons.

The F4.5 engine is manufactured at the Cummins Darlington Engine Plant in the United Kingdom.
