Vianode to supply advanced battery materials for BESS
Vianode, a battery materials company, and C4V, a battery technology company, have signed a Letter of Intent for the supply of high-performance synthetic anode graphite for grid battery energy storage systems
Synthetic anode graphite is at the heart of the agreement between Vianode and C4V, a battery technology company. An electrification efficiency policy must strengthen the entire supply chain to ensure virtuous development on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Find HERE an update regarding this Vianode technology.
The parties will explore an offtake agreement in which Vianode would supply synthetic graphite to C4V and its Gigafactory joint ventures through 2032, with first deliveries in the second half of 2026. Battery demand for energy storage systems in North America is expected to double by 2030, driven by growing solar power deployment, resilience upgrades for homes and businesses and demand for flexible grid support. BESS applications rely on long-life, high-consistency battery cells and secure access to advanced anode materials.
Vianode, BESS, and the “autarchic” path for synthetic graphite
Today, more than 95% of synthetic graphite used in lithium-ion batteries for energy storage systems and electric vehicles (EVs) is produced in Asia, creating significant import requirements in North American markets. The Vianode and C4V collaboration directly addresses this challenge by developing a regional supply chain for synthetic anode graphite and critical battery materials offering a foreign entity of concern (FEOC) free high impact anode solution.
“Building resilient supply chains for critical battery materials is fundamental to both the EV and BESS markets in North America and Europe. While EVs remain at the center of our growth strategy, BESS solutions complement and diversify our commercial portfolio, support capacity utilization at Via ONE during our global scale-up and help drive the wider transition to clean energy,” said Stefan Bergold, Chief Commercial Officer at Vianode.
“Uniting C4V’s breakthrough cobalt- and nickel-free cathode technology with Vianode’s next-generation synthetic graphite anode solutions marks a transformative milestone in shaping a truly regional, sustainable, and future-ready BESS value chain. This collaboration is not just about materials—it’s about redefining energy storage for a world moving toward decarbonization. Together, we are building the foundation for batteries that deliver unmatched safety, longevity, and efficiency while eliminating FEOC dependencies. Our shared vision is to accelerate innovation, strengthen supply-chain sovereignty, and empower the clean-energy transition at a global scale,” said Baasit Ali, VP of Supply Chain at C4V.
Glen Kozeli, Director of Sales & Business Development Americas at Vianode, added, “By combining our sustainable synthetic graphite with C4V’s innovative battery technology, we are creating a powerful partnership that will not only drive the energy storage market forward in North America but also lay the foundation for exploring global opportunities together.”
The Letter of Intent marks Vianode ’s first agreement in the BESS segment. Initial volumes will be produced at Via ONE, the sustainable graphite plant located in Norway, followed by shipments from Via TWO, Vianode’s recently announced large-scale facility to be developed in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada.
