Baudouin crossed the Rubicon of NRMMs (Non-Road Mobile Machinery) at Agritechnica, where it exhibited its solutions, with an accent on hybrid formulas. As Julius Caesar said, ‘Alea iacta est,’ the die is cast. We will bring you the full interview in the January-February issue. Here’s a sneak peek at the full interview.

Baudouin Addresses Agriculture OEMs at Agritechnica

Weichai has raised the bar for internal combustion engine efficiency and is preparing to spread the word in Europe as well. It will once again be Bauduouin that wedges itself among the Western big players, confident in its ability to replicate the ‘disruptive’ impact it had among stationary engines.

It is once again he, Sébastien Peyron, Vice President – Strategy and Engineering, Chief of Staff, who introduces us to this new adventure of Baudouin. Jumping into the large off-highway segment, starting from agricultural machinery. Why now?

Baudouin, as you know, has existed since 1918 and has been one of the leaders in marine propulsion. About nine years ago we started a diversification strategy to create new opportunities in power generation, where we have been very successful, especially now in data centers, which is a specific and fast-growing segment. Until now we also had products for industrial applications with variable-speed engines for stationary uses, particularly water pumps and firefighting pumps. Since last year, we decided to enter off-road mobile applications, where the market is also huge. We can redesign and adapt our existing engine platforms for these segments. This year, here at Agritechnica, we are launching our new range of Stage V-compliant mobile engines from 33 to 566 kW.”

What are your expectations? What are you seeing in the agricultural market?

Definitely opportunities, many opportunities. The agricultural sector is an important part of our diversification strategy. With a large market and strong demand for reliable power solutions, it represents the right moment for Baudouin to take this step.

Looking at your booth, I see solutions that seem more sophisticated than a traditional internal combustion engine. What exactly are you displaying?

We are part of the Weichai Group. Within Weichai we also have sister companies such as Lovol, a major tractor and machinery manufacturer, and others like Aradex, LHY and VDS. Aradex is a German company providing electronics, batteries, inverters and electric motors. LHY, formerly Linde Hydraulics, supplies hydraulic components. VDS, based in Austria, develops, designs and manufactures transmissions.

With our new Stage V engine range, we are now able to offer complete packages to off-road OEMs. At Agritechnica we are showing three examples of integrated packages:

DH Series: engine plus hydraulic package (LHY).

DeV Series: a 56 kW engine combined with a full transmission and hybrid system from Aradex.

• A third package (DhV) pairing our Stage V engines with a complete VDS CVT system, plus hydraulic components from LHY.

We wanted to use Agritechnica to show not only our new engine range but also our capability as a full system provider.
