The collaboration between Weichai and Belarus contradicts a common misconception. When people think of China, they often think of batteries. However, when it comes to propulsion, the Chinese are also deploying their “heavy artillery” in the most Western of technologies: the internal combustion engine. In this case, it’s Weichai waving the Dragon’s red flag. For several years now, in collaboration with Bosch, Weichai has been continuously raising the bar for engine efficiency.

The 542 horsepower from Weichai for the Belarus 5425 Titan

The classic red livery of the brand has been confirmed, but a stylistic refinement, previously only hinted at in Minsk, is immediately noticeable. This includes a sloping hood and a striking black front end, topped by the engine’s air intake grille. The heart of the Titan is a Chinese Weichai 13.5-liter, six-cylinder engine that delivers 542 horsepower (398 kW) of maximum power and 2,450 Nm of torque. This places it at the top of its category, despite its emission standards being Stage IIIA, meaning it’s not approved for use in our regions.

Produced by the Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ) in Belarus, the 5425 remains faithful to a classic architecture (4-wheel drive, rigid frame), utilizing a technological setup that is, all things considered, top-notch, given that raw power is what truly matters here. The 18×6 full Power Shift electro-hydraulic transmission allows for on-load gear changes without power interruption. The clutch is a multi-disc wet clutch, and the multi-disc wet brakes on both the front and rear axles are hydraulically operated.

The hydraulic system stands out with a combined flow rate of an impressive 350 liters/minute (two axial piston pumps delivering 210 and 140 l/min). These performance figures make it suitable for use with large-capacity or continuously operating agricultural implements. The rear hitch can lift up to 17 tons, while the front one reaches 5 tons.

A local approach for a global target

Over 80% of the 5425’s components come directly from Belarusian plants. The engine, hydraulic system, and tires (Trelleborg) are the only exceptions. The rest, from the frame to the transmission, from the electronics to the cabin, is designed and produced in Belarus. A special mention goes to the suspension system, supplied by a Swedish company.

The model’s official debut took place during the Belagro 2025 fair in Minsk, with a speech by CEO Sergej Avramenko. He emphasized that the Belarus 5425 is not an isolated product, but rather the flagship of a new series of super-powerful tractors: the Titan range. “The 5425 is just the beginning. This machine represents a new era for our engineering. It’s not just powerful; it’s built to last and to work in extreme conditions. Its arrival changes the rules of the game.”
