Prinoth Panther XL in Antarctica
The Norwegian Polar Institute has selected Prinoth’s Panther XL powered by CAt C18 engine to support transport and logistics at the Troll Research Station in Antarctica

The Panther XL demonstrates Prinoth ‘s ability to conquer challenges even tougher than those found on ski slopes. The tracked vehicle is currently at work supporting transport and logistics at the Troll Research Station in Antarctica.
Although not mentioned in Prinoth’s press release, it appears the Panther XL is powered by a Caterpillar C18 ACERT engine. This 6-cylinder, 18.1-liter engine (bore x stroke: 145×183 mm) produces 588 kW and approximately 3500 Nm of torque.
Is the mission of Prinoth’s Panther XL an impossible one?
Absolutely not. The Norwegian Polar Institute’s trust is proof of that. The institute has ordered 10 Prinoth Panther XL tracked vehicles, demonstrating strong confidence in this purpose-built solution for extreme terrain. Manufactured at Prinoth’s Granby facility in Canada, the Panther XL combines innovative technologies from the Snow Grooming division in Sterzing/Vipiteno, South Tyrol, Italy, and the Crawler Carrier unit in Granby, Canada. This unique collaboration merges snow grooming and crawler carrier expertise to deliver exceptional performance in the toughest environments.

Key features include a large customizable touchscreen display adapted from snow groomers, heated windows and wipers designed to withstand severe weather, a high-comfort air suspension seat, and intuitive controls to ensure operator comfort during long missions.

Optimal technology for severe weather environments
“Antarctica demands the very best technology,” highlights Klaus Tonhäuser, President of Prinoth. “By bringing together the strengths of the Snow Grooming and Crawler Carrier teams and adding targeted innovations, we’ve built a vehicle that’s made to perform well in the toughest conditions and underlines the engineering capabilities of the Prinoth Group.“
