The DR5 drilling rig in Junttan exemplifies the new engine direction, which has chosen Volvo Penta as its technology partner. The DR5 is the first model to feature the high-performance Stage V – Tier 4f Volvo Penta TAD1385VE, a 6-cylinder Diesel engine able to deliver delivers 405 kW at the top, with a maximum torque of 2650 at 1200 rpm. Which features have convinced the Finnish foundation equipment specialist to choose the Swedish 12.7 litre? Junttan began its search for a new powertrain partner in 2020 selecting Volvo Penta for its extended maintenance intervals, compact engine design, scalable power options, and robust global service network. According to the Scandinavian companies, Junttan relies on robust, easy-to-maintain engines supported by a strong global network — making Volvo Penta a natural fit. All new-generation products, including pile driving rigs, drilling rigs, and hydraulic power packs, will be designed to maximize efficiency, extend service intervals, and reduce total cost of ownership. Both companies share a deep-rooted commitment to sustainability and innovation. Junttan’s DR5 drill rig shows a 20-tonne weight reduction over its predecessor and compatibility with 100% renewable HVO fuel.
