We have covered Liebherr’s collaboration with the Rehlko Group extensively, back when it was still called Kohler. We go back to the awarding of Liebherr’s D9812 as Diesel of the year 2017. One of the most interesting aspects of that engine, designed for maxi hydraulic excavators or mining trucks, concerned its immediate conversion to power generation. All this under the umbrella of the former SDMO, a subsidiary of Kohler Company.

Only the name has changed. Rehlko confirms and expands cooperation with Liebherr

In the sights are always them, the data centres, the desired object of all power generation players. Liebherr will contribute large bore engines up to 4,300 kW in addition to the exiting engine portfolio to the expanded partnership. The aim is to meet the increasing demand for larger generating sets in all the present and new hyperscale data centres under the extended agreement. The latter are being built by companies, such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, IBM and Alibaba. These data centres are designed to handle large amounts of data and computing resources, as well as to scale up and down in response to demand.

The partnership between Rehlko and Liebherr represents our shared commitment to supporting the digital backbone of today’s world,” said Andreas Bogner, member of the board of directors in the business unit combustion engines at Liebherr-Components.

Rehlko´s CEO, Brian Melka, added: “We are excited to expand our partnership with Liebherr. Together, we are addressing one of the most pressing challenges in the industry ‒ ensuring uptime and efficiency as data centres scale globally. Our joint solutions will help customers meet performance expectations while reducing energy consumption and operational costs.”

With data centres under increasing pressure to deliver tripled dividend in higher power output, performance and sustainability, our combined expertise brings the best of both worlds: advanced turnkey solutions and reliable, highly efficient flexible backup power,” concludes Carsten Dommermuth, head of sales for the stationary engine business at Liebherr-Components.
