The Editron division of Danfoss Power Solutions has delivered its first eHydraulic power module to Sany for the electrification of a 200-ton lattice boom crawler crane. The eHydraulic system integrates a Danfoss Editron synchronous reluctance permanent magnet motor with a variable-displacement axial piston pump to maximize performance and efficiency. Sany launched the fully electric battery-powered crane earlier this year, in line with its emissions reduction strategy, which also includes the development of zero-emission construction sites through the electrification of its lattice boom and telescopic boom crawler cranes.

Danfoss is Sany’s partner for electrification

Construction machinery worldwide emits around 400 million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year (source: IDTechEx). Aware of this, and having previously electrified its lower-capacity models, Sany is now working on fully electric versions of its higher-capacity crawler cranes. In this push, Sany is supported by Danfoss, which supplies Editron motors and D1P pumps for cranes in the 80 to 150-tonne range. As mentioned earlier, for its 200-tonne platform, Sany has opted instead for an integrated Danfoss eHydraulic power module to drive both traction and work functions. The system, which consists of an Editron PMI375-T1100 motor and a 260 cc D1P pump, is optimized to deliver peak performance and maximize hydraulic efficiency, extending machine operating time on a single charge. The complete hydraulic system also includes a Danfoss Series 90 pump and a PVG 128 valve.

Advantages and benefits of eHydraulic

Through Danfoss’s eHydraulic power module, Sany machinery has also gained additional benefits, including a compact package with mechanical advantages, simplified installation, and high reliability. Supplying the electric motor and hydraulic pump as an integrated package eliminates the risk of noise, vibration, and component damage that can occur when using a flexible coupling to join separate components. It also simplifies and speeds up installation, as there is no need for the OEM to connect the components. CE marking and Danfoss’s global service network were also key reasons why the Chinese manufacturer chose to partner with Danfoss on the project.
