FPT Industrial will be supplying up to 500 high-performance battery packs to sister company Iveco Bus to equip its fleet of E-Way full-electric 18 m articulated city buses to be delivered in Belgium, following a recently signed framework agreement with the Flemish government-owned public transport enterprise De Lijn.

The vehicles will be deployed in several cities in Flanders, with deliveries beginning in 2024 – first batch of 65 vehicles – and potentially continuing over six years. They will represent the largest fleet of Iveco Bus articulated electric buses in operation.Produced at FPT Industrial’s new carbon-neutral ePowertrain Plant in Turin (Italy), the Brand’s battery packs have been developed for LCVs, minibuses and bus applications. The new production site is the first totally carbon-neutral Iveco Group plant, achieving its targets by offsetting its CO2 emissions with the purchase of energy from renewable sources and carbon credits.

FPT Industrial: battery pack on display at IAA fair

The 69 kWh FPT Battery Pack for bus applications for Iveco Bus is a modular battery pack offering impressive energy density, for best-in-class performance in city bus applications. Thanks in no small part to NMC (Lithium Nickel Cobalt Manganese) technology, the most versatile, powerful, and high-performance solution to date, the eBS 69 offers quick charging/discharging times. The high flexibility and modular solutions make FPT battery packs adaptable to different applications, from urban to intercity buses.

In addition to battery packs, the ePowertrain Plant also produces electric axles for heavy commercial vehicles, and electric central drives for LCVs, representing another important milestone for FPT Industrial’s decarbonization path and for its strategy of achieving net-zero emissions for its products and all its industrial activities.
