Temsa is one of the leading players in the bus industry—not only in Turkey—that has accelerated its shift toward electrification. The Turkish bus and coach manufacturer is expanding into marine BEV applications. The company participated in the Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo, held in Amsterdam from June 24 to 26, where it presented its battery technology portfolio tailored for maritime applications.

Temsa and Its Path to Diversification

While Temsa is primarily recognized for its electric and hybrid buses, its entry into the marine segment marks a strategic diversification. At the exhibition, the company showcased energy storage systems designed for a range of vessel types, underlining its modular approach to battery integration. Temsa’s marine solutions currently address three main categories. For high-performance speed boats, the company offers high C-rate batteries capable of delivering between 100 kW and 500 kW over short durations. In the leisure segment—including yachts, catamarans, and boats between 12 and 50 meters—Temsa supplies auxiliary power systems at 24V and 48V (in 10 kWh modules), as well as traction systems ranging from 200 kWh to 1,000 kWh. For commercial vessels such as passenger ferries, the company supports propulsion needs from 600 kW to 1,000 kW, with battery configurations scaling from 500 kWh up to 2,000 kWh.

The Capabilities and Advantages of a System Integrator

The company’s focus remains on energy storage system integration rather than cell manufacturing. “We are not producing battery cells; we are creating solutions for energy storage systems,” Temsa representatives stated. The current battery chemistry in use is Li-Ion NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt), favored for its high energy density. However, the company is actively developing systems based on LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) and is exploring solid-state and sodium-ion battery technologies as part of its future roadmap.

With regard to hybrid configurations, Temsa prioritizes serial hybrid architectures, integrating electric power storage as a foundational element. “Our primary focus is battery supply,” the company noted, “and we are currently addressing serial hybrid solutions as the first step.”

The CEO of the Turkish company, Evren Güzel, commented: “Electrification of mobility in the maritime sector is critical for a sustainable future.  TEMSA complements its technology development with contributions to the broader shift toward electrified mobility. Taking part in the Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo is a great honor for us and a clear indication that we are pioneering the electrification transformation in the maritime industry.

At this point, we have gone far beyond providing batteries to the maritime industry. In this sense, we bring 100% electric, series hybrid, and parallel hybrid propulsion systems to our customers by offering end-to-end solutions. In addition to our standard solutions, we can produce tailor-made solutions that fully meet customer needs with our project-specific engineering approach. With the goal of electrification of mobility, we will continue to shape the future of sustainable transportation.
