ABB Motion showcased traction battery, AMXE250S motor and HES580 inverter at Busworld 2025
ABB Motion showcased at Busworld Europe the Traction Battery Pro Series, the AMXE250S traction motor, and the HES580 mobile inverter
ABB Motion showcased its latest technologies for the public transport sector at Busworld Europe 2025. Among the highlights are the Traction Battery Pro Series, the AMXE250S traction motor, and the HES580 mobile inverter, developed to power the next generation of electric buses.
From Brussels, we have already reported about Scania‘s new high-floor battery-electric bus and coach platform, ZF‘s new generation of axles, and the Cummins X10 6-cylinder engine.
Traction Battery Pro Series
The Traction Battery Pro Series was designed for safety, longevity, and operational flexibility. The system supported ultra-fast charging, optimized total cost of ownership, and integrated seamlessly with ABB’s drivetrain ecosystem to accelerate fleet decarbonization.
At Busworld also AMXE motor at the ABB Motion stand
The AMXE250S traction motor, a compact permanent magnet synchronous motor built for heavy-duty electric vehicles, “is engineered for high torque across a wide speed range. The motor offers exceptional efficiency, supported by ABB’s deep drivetrain integration expertise”, in ABB’s words.

And the HES580 inverter
Finally, the HES580 mobile inverter, a next-generation three-level inverter, is said to reducing harmonic losses by up to 75 percent, lowering voltage stress, and extending motor lifetime. Internal tests pairing the HES580 with the AMXE motor under the UITP SORT 2 duty cycle – which replicates real-world city bus operation – indicated energy savings of around 6.3 percent compared with conventional two-level inverter technology, ABB states.
