Dumarey Group announced the acquisition of MAHLE Powertrain LLC (MPT USA), the US branch of MAHLE Powertrain, specialized in engineering services, development and testing for global automotive OEMs. MAHLE and the Dumarey Group, signed a purchase agreement at the end of 2024. This strategic acquisition aligns with Dumarey Group’s commitment to expanding its engineering services and strengthening its presence in the United States, a key market for advancing low and zero carbon fuel-based engine technologies. Closing is expected in Q1/2025.

Dumarey Group views engineering services as a vital element of its strategy, particularly in the US market, which continues to embrace internal combustion engines (ICEs) in the short term, especially within the pick-up segment. In this context, MPT USA represents a complementary asset enabling the establishment of a robust local presence in the USA, expanding the regional customer portfolio, and delivering tailored, on-site solutions.

“Acquiring MAHLE Powertrain USA marks a significant milestone in our strategy and reaffirms our long-standing connection with the United States,” said Pierpaolo Antonioli, CTO of Dumarey Group. “This step strengthens our commitment to growth, innovation, and delivering exceptional value to our customers, while honoring the deep heritage and shared cooperation with US companies over the years.”

The acquisition will also allow Dumarey Group to conduct direct investments between MPT USA and Dumarey in both the USA and Europe to strengthen testing capabilities. In addition, the Dumarey Group aims to leverage US facilities to expand sales of its product portfolio, including injectors, electronic control units, and aftertreatment systems, creating new opportunities for local customers.

MAHLE Powertrain LLC employs approximately 70 people and operates several test benches. Dumarey Group’s strategy post-acquisition will focus on establishing a footprint for engineering and testing in the USA. Additionally, Dumarey Group plans to expand its customer base in the USA by focusing on medium- and heavy-duty segments, leveraging MPT’s complementary customer portfolio in the USA to drive growth and synergies.

“With the Dumarey Group, we have found a buyer with a strong US focus and corresponding dedicated growth strategy for this market that will be able to lead the business outside the MAHLE Group into a successful future”, said Marco Warth, Vice President of MAHLE Corporate Research and Advanced Engineering.

The market for engineering services in the USA is expected to offer growth opportunities for Dumarey Group. Key trends driving this growth include increase flexibility and investments in new technologies, and a strong push towards emission reduction in internal combustion engines (ICEs).
