Deutz and Yanmar still feature in Manitou’s five new vertical-lift skid steer loaders
Manitou confirms its engine partnerships with Deutz and Yanmar for its five new wheeled and tracked skid steer loaders. These new models stand at the top of the market in terms of operating capacity, hydraulic flow, power, and hinge pin height
Manitou has been using Yanmar and Deutz engines for years. These partnerships are confirmed, ensuring service continuity and high torque and power values. This is particularly crucial given the hydraulic performance required by the design and to meet operational needs in the most demanding conditions. Furthermore, this choice simplifies maintenance, as these brands are also widely used across the French manufacturer’s telehandler range.
Key features of these new machines include significant increases in power and hydraulic flow. The Deutz TCD 3.6, a 4-cylinder engine with a 3.6-liter displacement (Bore x Stroke 98×120 mm), was selected. It is available in a 75.5 kW (100 hp) version—derated from its 105 kW peak at 2,300 rpm—and an 83.8 kW (114 hp) version.

Focusing on the two new tracked models, the 3350VT and 3600VT, we find some very impressive figures. Both machines are built on the same modular platform. The 3350VT has an operating weight of 5,371 kg, while the 3600VT reaches 5,516 kg. The powertrain is indeed the aforementioned Deutz TCD 3.6, rated at 100 hp for the ‘smaller’ model and 114 hp for the unit that now becomes the French manufacturer’s top-of-the-range model.

The leap forward in terms of hydraulic flow is particularly noteworthy compared to previous models. With the High Flow option (highly recommended and almost ‘mandatory’ for machines in this class), both models reach 151.4 l/min. This value places these two machines at the top of the market, alongside the Takeuchi TL12-V2 (153 l/min) and the Caterpillar 275 (150 l/min), and just behind the Bobcat T86 (159 l/min). Crucially, they all exceed the 150 l/min threshold required to seamlessly operate complex attachments, such as the Simex ART 1000, which utilizes a dual hydraulic rotor.
The primary difference between the two machines lies in their rated operating capacity (ROC), a factor closely tied to operating weight. The Manitou 3350VT offers an operating capacity of 1,588 kg, while the 3600VT reaches 1,700 kg. Consequently, both are capable of easily handling standard 1,500 kg pallets of materials like curbs or interlocking pavers. All this is achieved with a maximum hinge pin height of 3.42 meters, the highest in their weight class—even surpassing the Caterpillar 275 by a centimeter.
A broader look at the five new loaders

The five new loader models include three new wheeled versions (3250 V, 3350 V, and 3600 V) and two new tracked versions (3350 VT and 3600 VT). The primary design choice concerns the loader arms: the manufacturer has opted for vertical lift across all new models. This solution allows for discharging material higher and further into large trucks. Additionally, they offer a more stable and consistent lift pattern without compromising visibility.
