Aggreko Involved in Europe’s Largest Battery Energy Storage Project
Aggreko has provided an HV (High Voltage) bridging power package for the plant's commissioning. The total storage capacity will be approximately 500 MW
A record-breaking project, essentially the largest of its kind in Europe. An unprecedented challenge for all the stakeholders involved in its construction—including Aggreko, a global leader in energy solutions. The company stepped in to provide an HV bridging power package to support the commissioning of Europe’s largest battery farm. Located in Scotland, the site boasts a 500 MW Battery Energy Storage System. The comprehensive package of load banks and generators supplied by Aggreko will play a fundamental role in the project’s success.
A 1 GW power plant is under development in Coalburn, Scotland, by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and is expected to be fully operational by 2026. This facility is projected to power 184,000 homes annually and offset 103,000 tonnes of CO₂, supporting the UK’s carbon neutrality targets.

Aggreko, a complete package for the next generation of power
Stage V generators, powered by HVO, ensured uninterrupted operation and load management throughout the entire commissioning phase. This integrated approach allowed the BESS to meet all required performance and safety standards, ensuring a smooth transition to full operational status while minimizing risks and downtime.

The tailor-made solution included a 5 MW load bank and a 5 MW generator at 33 kV, along with a 150 kVA low-voltage generator, HV/LV cabling, and auxiliary equipment. All systems were installed, commissioned, and fully supported by Aggreko’s dedicated onsite engineering team.
