Hyundai believes in hydrogen and certainly couldn’t miss H2MEET 2025, where they are playing on home turf. This is the largest hydrogen industry exhibition in Korea, taking place December 4–7 at KINTEX.

At H2MEET 2024

At this exhibition, it undertook promotional activities by showcasing a generator system utilizing the 11-liter hydrogen engine ‘HX12’ and the 22-liter hydrogen engine ‘HX22’ for large trucks and unveiling a product line that can be applied to hydrogen engines.

In particular, the hydrogen engine developed by HD Hyundai Infracore features a maximum output and torque that is more than double-digit percent higher in displacement than those of overseas competitors through optimal performance design, and makes it easy to retrofit (remodel) old vehicles by utilizing the conventional internal combustion engine platform as it is.

Additionally, the hydrogen engine is more competitive in price and has higher output than other next-generation power sources, such as electric batteries and hydrogen fuel cells.

The company has embarked on developing hydrogen engines in 2022, with plans to mass-produce hydrogen engines for trucks starting in the second half of 2025. In 2026, the company plans to mass-produce 11-liter hydrogen engines for power generation, and then expand its application to large trucks and high-power special equipment by developing a high-output hydrogen engine by 2027.

It recently won a bid for the ‘Direct Injection Hydrogen Engine Technology Development’ project commissioned by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, and is jointly developing a direct injection hydrogen engine with 10-25% higher output and torque than the conventional port injection method by 2027 in partnership with the Korea Automotive Research Institute (KATECH), the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Germany-based FEV, and U.S.-based University of Michigan.

In August 2024, the company won a contract for the government’s first domestically produced hydrogen fuel-cell engine generator demonstration project commissioned by the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning.

And, at this year edition…

HD Hyundai Infracore will display HX22 (22L Hydrogen Engine) – First public unveiling. Successfully achieved first ignition on November 12. World class large-displacement hydrogen engine entering the demonstration phase, with 600 kW peak output with 100% hydrogen combustion. The second showcased engine will be the HX12 (11L Hydrogen Engine), currently completing large-scale endurance and field tests and pplicable to trucks, excavators, and hydrogen generator systems.
