Deutz honors three winners with the Greenfield Award
Deutz announced the winners of the first “Deutz Greenfield Award” at the renowned congress #neuland in Aachen. The award, which is aimed at students and young researchers, honours outstanding academic work on sustainable powertrain solutions in the off-highway sector.

The three award-winning projects are characterized by their high degree of innovation, technical sophistication and positive impact on industry and the environment. The winners were selected by an interdisciplinary jury, which carefully evaluated the submitted projects.
As a member of the jury Sebastian C. Schulte, CEO of Deutz, emphasizes: “The award-winning projects impressively demonstrate how young talents with innovative ideas can shape the future of sustainable mobility. We are pleased to support these committed young researchers and to offer them a platform.”
The winners of the “DEUTZ Greenfield Award 2024” are:
• 1st place: Christian Varlese from the Vienna University of Technology for his work on the predictive operating strategy of fuel cell tractors;
• 2nd place: David Huber from the Vienna University of Technology for his research on the optimization of power-to-liquid plants for the production of synthetic fuels through the application of heat exchanger network synthesis;
• 3rd place: David Benz from RWTH Aachen University for his work on the development of robust localization algorithms for autonomous transport vehicles in the raw materials industry.
The award ceremony was a highlight of the congress #neuland and gave the winners the opportunity to present their work to a wide audience and make valuable contacts. Deutz will continue to promote young talent and actively drive forward the development of sustainably powertrain solutions in the future. With the “Greenfield Award”, Deutz is sending out a strong signal in favour of the importance of research and development in the field of emission-reduced powertrain technologies.
