Iveco celebrated its half-century anniversary at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni-OGR in Turin, and for us, it was an opportunity to gather the sentiments and insights from FPT Industrial. It was a candid interview, where the engine manufacturer of the Iveco Group spoke freely. The voice was that of Daniele Pozzo, Head of Marketing and Product Portfolio (the same narrative voice from the last edition of the IAA).

FPT Industrial and the XC13, Alternative Engine 2025

Let’s start with it, FPT Industrial’s XC13, which won the first edition of the Alternative Engine Award. Daniele Pozzo summarizes the initial impressions regarding its growth trajectory and market projection, under the banner of the multi-fuel project’s inherent agnostic professionalism of application transversality and vocation for flexibility.

The feedback from the first months of the XC13 in the field has been very positive, as customers are directly experiencing the data we announced in our brochures. This impression has been confirmed in all our interactions, first with dealers and then with their customers. The magic number is 10%, which summarizes the difference compared to the previous model year, and it’s what a customer physically holds in hand in terms of fuel consumption on a ‘long voyage’ mission. Translated into euros per kilometer, this represents a significant figure that fleet owners see at the end of the month. Along with consumption performance, there’s also the issue of power, because the engine has more torque and more power than the previous 13-liter engine.

These are also things customers can truly experience. We’ve also developed a lighter engine. Our target was a 100-kg reduction, a feature less obvious to a fleet owner, as it’s not immediately perceived on a 44-ton truck. For us, however, as engine designers, reducing the engine’s weight by almost 10% was a challenge that, for example, required us to choose different materials.

Natural Gas and alternative fuels

We are strongly committed to natural gas and, generally, to alternative fuels. FPT Industrial made this decision about twenty years ago, and we continue to uphold it, fully aware that it’s just one of the answers to the energy transition. Customers can adopt this solution today, relying on our experience: we’ve sold over 100,000 natural gas engines. It’s a technology we apply to heavy, medium, and light-duty vehicles. This is a distinguishing feature that FPT guarantees its customers.

We also see this technology as an element that allows us to open new business lines, both in on-road, in this case in India, and in off-road applications. CNH Industrial has the only natural gas application available in the off-highway segment.

We’ll continue this discussion very soon. On the agenda: electrification, commercial strategies, the collaboration with Raywin, and communication to our (and your) world.
