No limits both in geographic terms and in applications. Yes, because at the Rimini Exhibition Center, from 5 to 8 November, the first edition of the Distributed Power Europe will take place, organized by the Italian Exhibition Group.

Distributed Power Europe Rimini

Distributed Power Europe (DPE), a new point of reference for the onsite power industry

The event will take place simultaneously with the Key Energy, which represents the other rally point for the stationary sector, for both fixed and variable speed, for the production of energy and heat, generally through anaerobic fermentation of biomass. In other words, an “all-in-one” environment that is unique among the other industry events and brings together the entire supply chain, from components, endothermic engines and alternators, to the representation of OEMs. An event that aims to become the natural point of reference for power generation in the Old Continent, thanks also to its strategic position between the German-speaking countries, southern Europe, the Balkans and the area to the east of the European Union, the Russian area and Maghreb.

MTU AND MICROGRID

Within the conference program of the agora (“square”, in ancient Greek, to emphasize the importance of the DPE in the Mediterranean), there are going to be two important topics that are very familiar to our International platform: microgrids and the coverage of energetic needs for public events. Decentralized microgrids have different possibilities of application, for example within production plants. An important case study is that concerning ABB and the Marsabit wind farm in northern Kenya.

The microgrid powered by the wind and by a diesel generator can fulfill the energetic needs of the 5,000 inhabitants of the territory, otherwise cut off from the distribution networks. In this description the so-called ‘smart grid’ makes an appearance. It is an actual power plant that can answer the need to balance renewable sources, naturally dependent on weather conditions. Diesel or gas, either way ICE become the balancers of a system that typically includes a wind or photovoltaic farm and storage batteries.

A look also at prime power

Another application that will be of significant importance is going to be the widespread and interesting interpretation of the use of prime power: the coverage of energy services during concerts. An operation that requires reliability and the right sizing. To satisfy these characteristics and to represent the right concert application, Rimini has a dual source of credibility: synergies in the power generation ch ain of the Distributed Power Europe and the predisposition to entertainment of the Romagna Riviera. Two relevant examples come from FPT Industrial and NED Generators. FPT Industrial, in collaboration with Universal Music, has provided a G-Drive, customized by the street artist Pao. Possible uses? For example, charging the cell phones of the 80,000 people hungry for video recordings of the concert of the Italian rappers Fedez and J-Ax at the San Siro stadium in Milan.

The Twin 55 by NED Generators has instead operated at the Jova Beach Party, in Marina di Cerveteri, on the coast near Rome. The Italian singer Lorenzo Cherubini, aka Jovanotti, has in fact performed in front of 40 thousand people, during an event that for 12 hours put the lighting towers and sound systems to the test.
