Liebherr boosts power generation manufacturing in Colmar
With the strategic capacity expansion on its production site in Colmar, Liebherr strengthens its industrial capabilities in France. On June 2, Liebherr-Components celebrated this milestone together with its partner Rehlko
Eight years ago POWERTRAIN International attended the inauguration of the Liebherr D98 production plant in Colmar. More recently, Liebherr announced it is strengthening its industrial capabilities in Colmar to support the growing demand for high-performance power generation solutions.
Liebherr celebrates in Colmar in the presence of Rehlko
On June 2, Liebherr-Components celebrated this milestone together with its partner Rehlko, highlighting the strength of the collaboration and the shared ambition to support growing demand for power generation applications worldwide.
As demand for reliable and resilient power solutions continues to grow across industries — including data centres, infrastructure and other critical applications — Liebherr strengthens its industrial footprint to address these evolving market needs across diverse industries and regions.
Therefore, the facility in Colmar is being developed as a scalable platform, capable of addressing the evolving requirements of the global power generation market. The extension aims to significantly increase Liebherr’s production, logistics and testing capacities, as well as to support the development and manufacturing of high-power combustion engines for key partners and a wide range of power generation applications.
Beyond production, the project also reinforces the site’s capabilities in engineering, testing and validation, positioning Colmar as a key industrial platform within Liebherr’s global power generation strategy.
A strong partnership
The partnership between Rehlko and Liebherr has steadily evolved since the launch of the KD Series generator range in 2016. Most recently, in May 2025, the two companies expanded their strategic collaboration to further advance engine technology and meet growing demand.
“Today’s ceremony is an important milestone for our growth strategy as we scale our capacity to support the accelerating digital backbone,” said Brian Melka, President and Chief Executive Officer of Rehlko. “As data centre demand continues to grow, customers are prioritising resilient, scalable power solutions with zero downtime. This expansion demonstrates our commitment to disciplined decision-making and follow-through, strengthening our ability to convert a growing backlog into long-term revenue and capture additional market share in the data centre sector while reinforcing our leadership in critical energy solutions.”
Jens Krug, Managing Director of Liebherr-Components Colmar SAS added “This expansion reflects more than an investment in capacity — it demonstrates our long-term commitment to our partnership with Rehlko, to the Colmar site, and to the sustained growth of our industrial capabilities. As a family-owned company, we believe in building strong, trustworthy relationships that enable us to deliver innovative and reliable solutions for our customers worldwide. With this investment, we are creating the conditions to support future growth, drive innovation, and address evolving market needs.”
