As a truly global company, Wärtsilä projects are spread all over the world. Here we report some of the latest and most interesting ones in terms of technological impact. In Saudi Arabia, Wärtsilä engine technology will enable a mining site power plant to efficiently utilise solar energy. In fact, Wärtsilä will supply the engineering, equipment and technical advisory for a 44 MW power plant to be installed at the Mansourah & Massarah Gold Project mine in Saudi Arabia.

Wärtsilä IN THE AZORES

It will be the first newbuild power project in the country to utilise a hybrid concept, with engine technology and solar energy. The power plant will comprise six Wärtsilä 32 engines, with five in operation and one on constant stand-by. Renewable source energy, such as solar and wind, require the power plant to be able to respond rapidly to an inherently fluctuating supply to enable the load to be effectively balanced.

More about Wärtsilä projects: smart grids in South East Asia

Moving to South East Asia, Wärtsilä has signed a contract for a new 100 MW/100 MWh total capacity energy storage project. The energy storage system facility, including Wärtsilä’s GEMS, an advanced energy management software platform, and GridSolv solution, will be used for grid support purposes.

THE COLLABORATION WITH LIEBHERR

Wärtsilä is then enabling the transition towards a 100 percent renewable energy future around the world by designing and building flexible systems that integrate renewables, traditional thermal assets and energy storage.

A power plant in the Bahamas

Finally, a 132 MW power plant in The Commonwealth of Bahamas, supplied and built by Wärtsilä, was taken into commercial operation in December 2019. At the same time, Wärtsilä signed a two-year operation and maintenance (O&M) agreement with the plant owner, the Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd (BPL). Wärtsilä will transition, train, and develop the owner’s Bahamian work force for managing the new technology, while also providing key performance guarantees.

FPT Industrial: let’s go, XC13

The XC13 surely sounds agnostic in FPT Industrial’s unofficial nomenclature; it comes, indeed, with a tripartite certification: Euro 6E (winking an eye at the upcoming Euro 7), methane gas and also biofuel, with a link to hydrogen. Andrea Abbà, FPT’s product marketing manager, told us about dialogui...
