HD Hyundai Heavy Industries – Engine and Machinery announced on January 23 that it has successfully completed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of the world’s first H54DF HiMSEN engine at HD Hyundai Engine (Yeongam, South Korea).

The FAT was conducted with the participation of the shipowner (Excelerate Energy), classification society (BV), and shipyard (HHI), with the engine to be installed on the 3407 FSRU (Floating Storage & Regasification Unit) currently under construction by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The 6-cylinder H54DF engine, which has demonstrated excellent performance and quality, is a dual-fuel engine capable of running on both natural gas and diesel, with a power output of around 12,000 horsepower. It boasts the highest power output per cylinder among 4-stroke engines worldwide. This engine significantly reduces harmful emissions such as sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides, as well as greenhouse gases. It offers approximately three times the output of existing dual-fuel engines and an 18% increase in power compared to diesel engines.

A representative from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries-Engine and Machinery stated, “We will continue to expand our portfolio, including the H54DF, which successfully passed the FAT, as well as H35DFV and H35GV models. With our competitive edge, we aim to provide differentiated brand experiences through customer-tailored engine production.”

Meanwhile, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries-Engine and Machinery began engine production at HD Hyundai Engine (Yeongam, South Korea) in October 2022 and has established production facilities capable of producing 200 engines (approximately 1.2 million horsepower) annually. Due to the growing demand for eco-friendly ships and power plants, they are supplying eco-friendly high-power engines to both domestic customers, including HD Hyundai Samho, and international clients in a timely manner.
