Allison @ IFAT 2026
At IFAT 2026, the world’s leading trade show for environmental technologies, Allison Transmission will present its sophisticated, fuel-agnostic fully automatic transmissions for commercial vehicles used in municipal applications
Allison Transmission will present its transmission and powertrain technologies portfolio for refuse collection and municipal vehicles at IFAT 2026. Emphasis will be placed on established transmission series as well as software-based solutions for reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
Fuel-saving, software-based features such as Allison FuelSense 2.0 with DynActive Shifting and xFE (extra Fuel Economy) transmission technology are a key focus of the company at IFAT. These solutions optimize shift points and torque management based on vehicle weight, topography, load conditions, and driving profile. This enables a significant reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, particularly in municipal operations. Users benefit from fuel savings of up to 6% compared to transmissions without xFE technology, despite the demanding work cycles and stop-start driving typical of refuse collection vehicles.
Also with Alternative Fuels and CNG, Hydrogen and EV
All Allison fully automatic transmissions are compatible with alternative fuels such as compressed natural gas (CNG) and biogas, as well as with hydrogen technologies and electric motors. This makes them the ideal choice for municipal fleet operators looking to reduce emissions and advance decarbonization strategies without compromising reliability and cost-effectiveness.
At IFAT, Allison will showcase, among other products, the 3000 Series transmission, which ranks among the most widely used transmissions in the municipal waste management sector worldwide, suitable for engine outputs up to 276 kW (around 370 hp). The 3000 Series transmissions are used internationally in refuse collection, street sweepers, and waste disposal vehicles from numerous leading manufacturers and are specifically designed to meet the demands of continuous stop-and-go operation.

Allison fully automatic transmissions come standard with a torque converter that multiplies engine torque during start-up and acceleration – for increased performance and easy maneuvering, even at low speeds. Furthermore, Allison Transmission’s Continuous Power Technology delivers uninterrupted power to the drive wheels, enabling fleets to accomplish more, even with a smaller engine. The precise crawling speed and precision tuning simplify the emptying of refuse containers, maneuvering in confined spaces, and operating at extremely low speeds.
