A solution conceived four hands with its distribution partner, Palmer Johnson Power Systems, which received the blessing by the California Air & Resources Board (CARB) under the Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project (CORE).

Twin Disc’s electric shift relies on CORE program

CORE is an incentive program intended to encourage California off-road equipment users to purchase or lease currently commercialized zero-emission off-road equipment. This incentive project is designed to accelerate the deployment of clean off-road equipment by offsetting the higher cost of zero-emission technology with a point-of-sale discount. What the advantages are, compared with an internal combustion system, are well known. The Twin Disc system offers several significant advantages by replacing the main diesel engine with advanced energy storage systems. It eliminates diesel engine maintenance costs, reducing the high expenses typically associated with diesel engines. Fuel cost savings are substantial, as operators no longer need to rely on diesel fuel. The system provides configurable power-dense energy storage, meaning it can be tailored to meet specific energy demands efficiently. By reducing emissions, it contributes to a cleaner environment. Designed to optimize power usage, it results in better overall operational efficiency. Operators can benefit from financial incentives provided through the CORE program, supporting the adoption of cleaner technologies. These incentives can help offset initial investment costs, making the transition to Twin Disc’s energy storage systems more financially attractive. In summary, the Twin Disc system provides a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional diesel engines while enhancing the return on investment for operators.

The company says

We are proud to contribute to California’s environmental initiatives and support the maritime industry’s shift toward sustainable practices,” said Klaus Meyersieck, Global Product Manager at Twin Disc. “This approval by CARB is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team and our partners at Palmer Johnson Power Systems. Together, we look forward to seeing our systems make a positive impact on the environment and the industry.

This approval from CARB is a significant validation of our commitment to sustainability and innovation,” continued Meyersieck. Our Electric Propulsion System Conversion Kit not only meets but exceeds the stringent requirements set forth by the CORE program. As one of only three manufacturers with CARB’s approval in the commercial harbor craft (CHC) category, we have positioned ourselves as a leader in the transition to cleaner, more efficient maritime operations.
