From Engines to Bridge: Rolls-Royce Power Systems Deepens Ties With Overmarine
Rolls-Royce wins major framework contract for yacht bridges and engines. Framework agreement with Overmarine includes mtu NautIQ Bridge systems for the first time
The positive effects of product and service integration within the Rolls-Royce ecosystem have already made themselves felt, thanks in part to the contribution of Team Italia Marine — as demonstrated by the three-year agreement signed with the Sanlorenzo shipyard at the Monaco Yacht Show five years ago, or the four-year framework agreement for mtu diesel engines for Azimut and Benetti yachts, together with the introduction of integrated mtu propulsion systems for the Azimut Grande Series up to 30 metres, in line with the “From Bridge to Propeller” strategy.
The direction is clear: the ambition no longer stops at the engine room — it runs the full length of the driveline, from propeller to joystick. Now it is Overmarine’s turn: Rolls-Royce Power Systems is expanding its long-standing partnership with the yard to include the integration of yacht bridges, under a framework agreement running from 2026 to 2029 that covers the mtu NautIQ Bridge and 64 mtu Series 2000 engines.
Inside the Rolls-Royce–Overmarine Deal
Overmarine has relied on mtu propulsion systems for many years; almost all yachts in the fleet are powered by mtu Series 2000 engines. With the new contract, Rolls-Royce Power Systems is further expanding this partnership and will supply 30 propulsion systems comprising a total of 64 mtu engines of the 12V 2000 and 16V 2000 types, including two systems with four engines.

The framework agreement also marks the introduction of the NautIQ Bridge systems to the Mangusta Oceano 52 yacht range. With the mtu NautIQ Bridge, Rolls-Royce Power Systems offers a fully integrated product for the intuitive control of the entire yacht from a single source, featuring coordinated hardware and software. The integrated solution combines the bridge, energy management and propulsion into a seamless system.
Echoes from the Top Management
“Yacht builders want one thing above all else: a system that simplifies operations on board. Overmarine has relied on our mtu engines for years – and with our approach of viewing the yacht as a seamless system, we are taking the next step together. Close coordination with the Overmarine teams ensures that propulsion, automation and technical design mesh precisely, making the yachts more efficient and comfortable,” said Gianluca Bononi, Managing Director at Rolls-Royce Power Systems in Italy.
“Our Mangusta Oceano models require propulsion systems that run reliably and fit the vessel perfectly. Rolls-Royce Power Systems has been supplying them to us for years. With the new framework agreement, control and propulsion are now even more closely integrated – this simplifies construction and enhances comfort for our owners,” said Overmarine CEO Maurizio Balducci.

The Deal in a Nutshell
- 64 mtu engines with 12 and 16 cylinders from the 2000 series.
- The 2000 series power spectrum ranges from 720 to 1,939 kW (966 – 2,600 bhp).
- Almost all Overmarine yachts are powered by mtu engines.
- Mangusta Oceano 52 will be equipped also by the mtu NautIQ Bridge solution.
What does it mean “from bridge to propeller strategy”?
With its From Bridge to Propeller strategy, Rolls-Royce Power Systems aims to view ship operations as a complete system – from the controls on the bridge to the propulsion in the water.
What is NautIQ Bridge?
It’s a a fully integrated product for the intuitive control of the entire yacht from a single source, featuring coordinated hardware and software. The integrated solution combines the bridge, energy management and propulsion into a seamless system.
Who is Mangusta?
Founded in 1985 by the Balducci family, Mangusta is the flagship brand of Overmarine Group, with more than 300 yachts delivered. With roots dating back to the 1950s, the shipyard has evolved from sporty composite yachts to steel and aluminium lines designed for long-range cruising.
